Reading

This week we read the book, Mystery Valentine.  The students practiced identifying contractions, identify and spell words with the long vowel pattern cvcv and retold the story using transitional words such as first, then, next, after

Next week and the week after the students will read the book, How to Make a Snow Person.  The students will: sequence events & recognize and use statements, questions and exclamations.  We will also read a variety of other “How To…” books.  The students will be writing their own How To… books.  We will end out study by making a rootbeer float and then writing about How To Make  a Rootbeer Float.

Math

Over the next few weeks we will be working on subtraction strategies.  Look for packets with the strategy song & flashcards to come home!

Words of the Week

This week the students will practice words with the -ing ending.  Example words: king, ring, sing, swing, thing, wing, calling, falling, kicking, talking, playing, walking.  Each week the students are getting more accurate with the dictation portion of the test.  Some students are forgetting to begin each sentence with a capital letter and end with a period.  Please have your child practice writing the words of the week in sentences.

Science

The students will continue to learn about the earths rotation and revolution.
